- How much does a marine survey cost in the UK?

- Do I need a survey to insure a boat?
- Many insurers require a condition survey for older vessels or at renewal intervals — commonly every five years or so beyond a certain age. Ask the underwriter what they need before you commission a survey so you buy the right one.
- Does the boat need lifting out for a survey?
- For a pre-purchase survey, yes in nearly all cases — the surveyor has to see the hull below the waterline, the keel joint and the sterngear. The lift-out is usually arranged and paid for by the buyer.
- Can the seller's surveyor do the survey?
- It is not advisable. Commission your own independent surveyor with no relationship to the broker, yard or vendor, and read the report yourself rather than relying on a summary.
