How we verify every marine engineer on Marine Match

Anyone can print a business card and call themselves a marine engineer. The whole point of Marine Match is that you never have to take that on trust, so every application goes through the same checks before a profile appears in the directory.

What we ask for

Applicants upload manufacturer tickets and training certificates, a current public liability insurance schedule, and details of two yards or long-standing customers we can call. Documents are only ever seen by the verification team — they never appear on a public profile and they are deleted within six months if an application is unsuccessful.

What we check

We confirm the insurance is in date and the cover level is sensible for the work being offered. We check certificates against the issuing body where one exists. Then we call the references and ask plain questions: did they turn up, did the quote hold, would you have them back.

The three states you will see

A listing is either team verified, verification pending, or not verified. Pending means documents are in and we are still working through them — you can still browse the profile, but it is clearly flagged. Not verified means the business did not pass, and bidding and bookings are switched off for them.

Re-checks

Verification is not a one-off. Insurance schedules expire, so we re-request them annually, and any engineer whose cover lapses drops back to pending until it is replaced.
