- How much does antifouling cost in the UK?

- How often should a boat be antifouled?
- Most UK boats are antifouled annually at lift-out. Boats on drying moorings, in warm sheltered water or left afloat all year may need more attention; hard coatings and coppercoat systems extend the interval but still need washing and touch-up.
- Is osmosis serious?
- Isolated blisters on an older GRP hull are common and often manageable. Widespread blistering with high moisture readings is a bigger programme: peeling, months of drying and a full epoxy scheme. Get moisture readings before accepting any quote for treatment.
- Can I antifoul the boat myself?
- Many owners do, where the yard allows it. Yards increasingly restrict DIY blasting and spraying because of waste rules, and a professional application usually lasts better because the preparation is done properly.
