- How often should a boat be valeted?
- A wash down every few weeks in season keeps salt and soot off the gelcoat. Most owners add a full machine polish and sealant once a year, usually at lift-out or before launch.
- Will polishing fix faded gelcoat?
- Usually yes. Oxidation is a surface layer, so compounding followed by polishing and a sealant restores most older gelcoat. Where the colour has gone chalky right through, painting is the longer-term answer.
- Do valeters work at my marina?
- Most work mobile within a travel radius they set themselves, and you will see their distance from your berth on the quote. Some marinas require contractors to register and show insurance — vetted pros here already carry a certificate.
- Is shrink wrapping worth it?
- For boats stored ashore over winter it prevents water ingress, frost damage and green growth, and it is often cheaper than repairing what a failed tarpaulin lets through. It should be fitted with vents so the boat can breathe.
