Deep natural harbour at the mouth of the Fal
Falmouth's harbour is deep enough for commercial shipping and sheltered enough for laid moorings up the Fal and Penryn rivers. It is the last major service base before the Western Approaches, so a lot of work is done here specifically to be ready for open water.
The traditional boatbuilding trade is still strong in the area, which makes it a realistic place to get wooden hull and spar work done properly.
What owners book at Falmouth
- Traditional timber hull and spar repairs
- Rig surveys before offshore passages
- Antifoul on deep-keel yachts using local scrubbing berths
- Standing rigging replacement on a ten-year cycle
Local timing: Wooden boat work runs on longer lead times than GRP — allow a full winter for anything structural.
