Entrance to St Peter's Basin via a narrow passageway; water retained by a cill (no lock), maintained depth about 2m. Craft drawing ~1.5m need a window about 2 hours either side of low water at springs. Waiting pontoon outside.
About 6 miles upriver from the Tyne entrance. 3-tonne crane, engine/hull repairs and mast stepping; RYA training establishment; brokerage. Also monitors VHF 37/13. On-site restaurant.
