What winterisation actually costs in 2026

Marine Match · · 6 min read

Every autumn the same question lands in our inbox: is this quote fair? Because jobs on Marine Match are quoted openly by multiple engineers, we can answer that with real numbers rather than guesswork.

Engine winterisation

For a single diesel under 100hp, most quotes land between £180 and £320 including antifreeze and filters. Twin installations are rarely double — expect around a 60% uplift rather than 100%, because the engineer is already on board and set up.

Antifoul

Pressure wash, prep and two coats on a 32ft hull typically comes in between £600 and £1,100 depending on how much abrading the old coating needs. The paint itself is often the smaller half of the bill.

Where owners overpay

Splitting work across visits is the big one. An engineer travelling to your berth twice charges travel twice. Bundling winterisation, antifoul and a service into a single booked slot usually saves 15–20% against the same work ordered piecemeal.

Getting a fair price

Post the job with clear scope, photos and a realistic timeframe, then let three or four verified engineers quote. The spread tells you more than any single number.
